I moved to Richmond in 2008 to become a member of the faculty of VCU. My wife Jeanine and I found a house on craigslist (821 W. 30th St., Richmond, VA 23225) to rent while we learned about Richmond neighborhoods and to save up for a down payment on a house of our own. Terry and Patti Shulman were the landlords. This blog is about our experiences, what happened to us, and our quest to get our deposit back.

The Neighbor's Tree
I just got this picture from last week's storm. It's the tree from across the street at our rental house at 821 W. 30th St. I often wondered what the chances were if the even bigger tree in front of 821 fell. Wow. It could take out the whole house!
